Chrome extension data & privacy

Versions 1.1.0–1.1.1 · Updated October 6, 2026

Choosing what to share

In version 1.1.1, the extension popup explains that page content, titles, and URLs are shared with NovelShaft and its AI before you allow a site. You choose each site's access there and can remove it later.

Visible text you ask the AI to read may include personal identifiers, communications, financial information, or health information. These are handled as part of the requested page content for your writing request; they are not used for a separate profile or purpose.

Purpose and data handled

The extension lets NovelShaft’s AI use selected Chrome pages for your writing request. It handles work, run, connection and operation identifiers, URLs, managed tab identifiers, page titles, capture times, visible or selected text, and descriptions of current controls. Requested input text is passed to the selected site control.

It does not use cookie or history APIs, read saved passwords, or collect unrelated tabs. Capture excludes ordinary form values and editable fields. Standard password, authentication-code, payment-card and file-upload fields are excluded from control operations.

When information is shared

  1. An AI browser tool opens or navigates to the requested URL in Chrome.
  2. Reading returns captured text and its source through the connected Customer page and the customer API to NovelShaft’s AI. This happens during the current request even if no reference is saved. The AI providers and processing rules are described in the service privacy policy.
  3. Filling a field passes the requested text to the source site. A click may submit information or change external data; the existing chat confirmation shows the site, control and purpose. The source site’s terms and privacy policy also apply.
  4. A requested report or manuscript change uses existing NovelShaft storage flows. Capturing alone does not create a reference document.

Retention and disconnection

The extension keeps only the app-tab, work, managed-tab and URL mapping in Chrome session storage. Captured text and input text are not persisted by the extension. Current page tokens and controls are temporary. Pending API operations remain in memory and are discarded on completion, cancellation or restart.

Information may appear in the AI reply and ordinary conversation history. Requested saved references and prose follow the service’s existing retention and deletion rules. Revoking site access or disconnecting does not delete chat history or saved work. Inputs and clicks with unknown results are not automatically resent.

Limited use and updates

Data is used to provide the requested writing and browser features under the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. It is not sold or used for personalized advertising, credit assessment or lending decisions. Any permitted human access follows the exceptions described in the service policy. Data-handling changes will be disclosed before changed collection begins.
