NovelShaft is a writing environment where authors can develop a manuscript, its outline, and the people and worlds behind it as one work while thinking in conversation with AI.
During a pause in activity, we reconsidered what we should build and how AI should participate in creative work. With that clearer foundation, work on NovelShaft is moving forward again.
The author remains the author
NovelShaft is not designed to hand the story over to AI. The author keeps thinking, choosing, revising, and deciding.
AI helps search growing manuscripts and settings, organize thought, and connect decisions made in conversation back to the work. It is designed as a collaborator that helps an author stay with a long story, not as a replacement for the author.
What NovelShaft currently supports

- Organize chapters, headings, and prose in a hierarchy
- Keep character notes, plot material, PDFs, and other references with the work
- Turn spoken ideas into text for discussion
